Abstract in English:

A large abandoned industrial space with untapped potentials located in one of the main areas of future development of the city of Bologna, this is the Centrale del Battiferro. It rises like a ghost along the Navile Canal, on the cycle-pedestrian route that starts from Casalecchio di Reno, passes through the center of Bologna and reaches Castel Maggiore. Opposite the Central is the Museum of Industrial Heritage, a former brick kiln and in its vicinity, beyond the canal, there are also the new university center and the CNR immersed in the Navile park. The context in which it is placed therefore has great landscape value both for its environmental value, and for the historical-architectural, proto-industrial and rural permanences that are preserved in the surroundings. The Centrale del Battiferro has a strong historical value for Bologna, in fact it was the first thermo-hydroelectric plant in the city, it brought electric light and guaranteed it after the second world war when it remained the only one functioning in the city, but today he has lost his identity. Our project wants to enhance again the Central, given its link with the history of Bologna, insert it as an active and reference point in the context in which it is located and within the path that connects it to the city. The Central is therefore called to produce new energies, no longer just physical, energies 2.0 that reflect the main character of Bologna, that of university city and culture, in continuous intellectual evolution. The project is at the service of the city and all the people who gravitate around the plant, workers, students, tourists, cyclists, creating a multifunctional space with coworking and various facilities (bar / café, relaxation area, gym, auditorium, ciclofficina) integrated into the ex-industrial atmosphere of the building. C2B2 is the Coworking in the Central Battiferro of Bologna, a place that gives a new face to a forgotten industrial architecture, but at the same time preserves its memory
