Abstract in English:
Drawing from the fields of organizational behavior, the learning sciences and positive psychology, this paper examines the design of coworking spaces and looks at how they might nurture “Good Work”–work that is excellent, ethical and engaging. Over the course of six qualitative interviews with founders and community managers, the following themes emerge: “pull” versus “push” culture, diverse versus niche communities, implicit and explicit trust, institutional monitoring/hierarchal power and emergent governance, and professional vertical growth versus the expansive growth of human potential. Implications for Good Work, recommendations for the design of future spaces, and avenues for future research are discussed.
